Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Elantra GT’s cabin has sophisticated styling that is highlighted by tight panel fits and good-quality materials, including soft-touch plastics and attractive silver trim pieces. Too bad its back seat is tighter than many competitors. While the quality interior is standard, luxury items like heated and cooled leather front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are part of extra-cost packages. But the Elantra GT does what hatchbacks do best—carry more stuff than similarly sized sedans. It has an impressive 25 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the back seat, which increases to 55 cubes with the rear seats folded.

Overview

While the Elantra GT has the style to garner attention, this handsome hatchback lacks the substance to challenge top contenders. The Hyundai has a stylish, well-built interior and a full-featured infotainment system, but popular options are either missing or part of expensive packages. Its relaxed ride, balanced handling, and good highway fuel economy are offset by unremarkable acceleration and minimal active safety features.
